“Have 2 Ways Out”

That’s this year’s theme of Fire Prevention Week, which couldn’t be happening at a better time for us to have fire prevention on our minds.  As our dry conditions continue, we need to go beyond just thinking about fire prevention to take extra fire safety steps in our homes and neighborhoods. The summer that was known as the “Summer of Devastating Western Wildfires” has continued into the fall, and the wildfire conditions that we typically associate with rural areas are prevalent in our cities as well.

As our Woodinville Fire & Rescue team remind us, it’s important to have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. What if your fire escape route is blocked by smoke or flames? That’s why the Fire Prevention week theme says to “Have 2 Ways Out.” Taking time to make and practice a plan and a backup plan is a great way to put fire safety to work in your home.

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, Woodinville Fire & Rescue invites families to tour their stations at an open house and hot dog barbecue this Friday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 8pm. All three stations — #31, #33, and #35 – are participating. More helpful tips to fireproof your home will be shared at the event.
